Qatar plans to tap Romanian expertise for its ICT projects

Qatar is looking to hire the services of world-class Romanian information technology and communications (ICT) companies for various projects in the country, a senior official of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) said on Sunday.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of a meeting between the members of a Romanian trade delegation and MoTC officials, Government Information Technology Sector Assistant Undersecretary Hassan Jassim al Sayed said Romanian IT companies are operating at the global level and Qatar can benefit a lot from their expertise in this sector.
A trade delegation consisting of officials from top 12 Romanian (ICT) firms specialising in cyber-security, process automation, data protection and telecommunications software showcased their products and services to the MoTC officials at a seminar in Doha.
Sayed noted that IT sector in Qatar has become one of the driving forces behind Qatar’s extraordinary growth over recent years and that IT is a key component in Qatar’s 2030 vision.
“I was highly impressed with presentations made by Romanian companies. All the products and services showcased during the seminar are of high qualities and can be used in various Qatari projects. We are looking to hold furthers talks with companies separately. I am sure all these meetings will result in business partnerships,” Sayed said.
“We welcome partnerships between businesses and government entities in all sectors of the IT industry. We actively encourage innovation in the new economy through our wide range of government-supported projects,” he said.
Romanian Ambassador to Qatar HE Cristian Tudor said Romanian IT&C firms have the expertise to work on Qatar’s mega projects including the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Citing Romania as one of the world leaders in information technology, the envoy said Romania was always ready to support Qatar in its quest to build a world-class IT network in the country.
Romanian firms have the expertise and are well-placed to support Qatar in organising a very successful World Cup, the envoy said, adding that Qatari investors can also benefit a lot from investing in Romania’s IT sector.
The envoy said the current trade volume of around $65 million between Qatar and Romania did not reflect the actual potential of trade ties between the two countries and several initiatives are being taken to boost the volume.
“Exports from Romania to Qatar especially in the food sector have grown substantially in the recent past. It is expected to grow which will ultimately result in bigger trade volume between the two countries in 2018,” the envoy said.
Information Technology and Communications Association of Romania Chairman Florin Vrejoiu highlighted the phenomenal growth of IT sector in Romania in the recent past.

Romania trade mission to hold two seminars
The Romanian embassy has announced that the government of Romania, in partnership with the private sector, is organising a trade mission to Doha today and tomorrow.
The trade mission is focused on the information technology and communications (IT&C) sector, in line with the Romanian government’s “demarches to enhance co-operation between Romania and Qatar”, the embassy has said in a statement.
The Romanian delegation includes key persons from 11 IT&C leading Romanian companies: 4 E Software, BitDefender, GreenSoft, Imprezzio Global, Ingenios.ro, Kuantero, Next Planet, Online Services, Q-East Software, Siveco, Tellence and TGS Software.
It will also feature the chairman of the Romanian Association for Information Technology and Communications, and representatives from the Ministry of Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship.
The trade mission’s programme includes two seminars. The first of these will be held at 9am today at W Doha Hotel, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The second seminar will take place at 11am tomorrow, organised by Qatar Chamber at its headquarters.
The embassy has said interested specialists are welcome to attend.
